Adorn Magazine is awesome to the max
Check out what I did today!
Remember those things from the seventies made from yarn using that line art called symmography? I didn’t either, it’s ok. Mom knew what I was talking about though. I got the idea from my new Adorn magazine. They have a whole write up on seventies crafts which are totally groovy. But I actually put myself to work on this one.
Lowes had great 24″x24″ Red Oak (I think >__<. He just read the directions and showed me how to do it lol. That’s why I love him! So the end result:
chillin on the nets…
…the internets that is.
Just been listing some new stuffs. Getting myself together.
I’m going to be moving in the next few weeks to go back to school (after a 2 year break) so I’m trying to get as much cash as possible. The Day Job is going to have to be cut back due to studies and such, so I’ll be pretty dependent on Etsy for a while.
Change is frightening, but I’m trying not to be a spaz ^_^
It’ll all be ok tho, cuz I’m majoring in art (i’m totally taking a print making class this semester!) and I’ll be taking some graphic design classes so I’ll be able to do this even better:

Yeah, that’s me on a deserted island with Han Solo frozen in Carbonite. What are you gonna do about it?
First Otakon ^_^
Omigosh what an experience! I enjoy myself some anime, but these kids are intense. I took off work last weekend so I could try out my first convention with The Pink Samurai. My family and I took the train up Friday morning with all my swag stuffed in a bright pink rolling suitcase. (we rode backwards and that always messes with my head >_<) Registration was a nightmare. Note to Self: next time pick up passes the day before. It was only 11:30 or so when we got there (the artist alley didn’t open till 2:00 pm the first day) and there were already hundreds of kids roaming the streets of Baltimore and the endless maze that is the Convention Center. After going to about 5 or 6 people, we found someone who knew what the hell was going on and got me on my way. The Alley was huge. About the size of 2 or 3 basketball courts next to each other. My little money maker was all the way in the back corner too. Teh suck. But I set up shop and I thought I made a cute little table. Check it:
I had this idea of sticking some chopsticks in the bowls of buttons. People were practicing their skills with the sticks all weekend ^_^ Close-ups of my amazing set up:
Hooray! So like I said, I was about at far away from the action as you could possibly get. It was ok though, cuz the people that came by were awesome. My first sale was so great and it just got better from there. I made up my expenses (cost of the table and registration) halfway through the first day, so Saturday and Sunday were just icing on the cake. Acutally, I had to wake up super early Saturday morn (which sucked cuz we got home after midnight and we’re both such homebodies that’s super late for us) to make more comic book and anger mark buttons. They were selling like Pocky lol!
The second day is when the people got awesome. One girl came by a few times checking out my “Dirty Laundry” bag. I feel so bad I never got her name! You know who you are though! And Here’s a pic of my favorite Naruto fan:
Roxas wasn’t feeling very well…eat those Saltines! They cure all ills. But these cool chicks looked great and got the coolest stuff. Thanks ladies ^_^
And I had one girl wander over just looking at my wares, then she picked up a card and said, “Hey! I bought stuff from you online!” And was like, “No way! Forreals?!” And then she showed me her purse:

Donna you rock my button-filled world. I was so excited and felt so cool! Being recognized and seeing people who like what you do really is the best feeling of them all. Oh to have your efforts appreciated ^_^
So yeah…it was really fun and I made pretty good money. Very cool experience. Definitely going to go again next year. Hopefully I won’t get stuck in the corner again lol!
So many things!

OK! So there’s a few things to get to. First of all, I have a new hero. Her name is YummyDino and not only does her jacket love her very much, she also takes awesome photos. I made this button a while ago that said, “I love my jacket and my jacket loves me.” Totally cool, I know ~_^ She bought it and took a pic (in the almost-summer heat mind you) of her jacket! Most definately cute and forever on my list of heroes. Also, be sure to check out her flickr: flickr.com/photos/dinorawr/ Awesome to the max photos forreal.
***So something else pretty cool…I just spent the last half hour making my first Treasury in Etsy! The theme is the Chinese Zodiac. I’ve been kind of obsessing over Fruits Basket (one of my favorite animes!) and this treasury worked perfect! Check it out here:

Plus I made it into a couple ^_^

I went to the Asian market with a couple of my girlfriends today and they had this kickass kawaii wrapping paper on sale. It was promptly paid for and buttons were made tonight! They’ll be listed on Etsy in the morrow. I think they are super cute. I have tons more just waiting to be made, plus a 2.25 machine on the way that will make pocket mirrors and coasters. Good times will be had by all!
Meanwhile, in the land of Bum, I haven’t been too creative and let one of my favorite and best selling items go unmade. Good thing I got back on the horse again! She’s going to be “w00t”
So yeah, super procrastinator is on the ball again…let’s see how long it lasts this time!
So it’s been awhile since I’ve written and a lot has happened. I’ve been making great sales on etsy, and my body of work is definitely increasing. I find it easier to keep people’s attention with pictures, so I’m not going to make you think very hard in this blog.
Exibit A:
Remember this pretty? I finally finished it, and it turned out A.Mazing! It’s up for sale and has more views than anything else I’ve made. I am very proud of it.
Exhibit B:
These both sold to one buyer…big ups to “labelreader” in VA. Apparently Virginia is for nerd lovers ^_^ They were new variations on older designs and I think they turned out really fresh.
Exhibit C:
These super little guys didn’t take too much time and totally awesome (if I do say so myself). My mom used to make little cross stitch project of things her friends liked, like my grandmother has a little set of golf clubs on her wall. I thought it would be sweet to make some little ones of things dorky kids like me liked.
Exhibit D:
So this one had been half finished for a long time and I just never got around to actually completing it. So I got up my gumption and got it done. I really like this because only a true gamer would understand…and it’s almost totally accurate down to the pixel. Every geeky gamer remembers the worst translation ever:
Lol grammer.
Exhibit E: (and last one, if you’re really bored)
I just made them tonight. Being totally out of vital colors needed to complete my Mario coasters…I had to come up with something else to do. I feel like I was straying from my first love of pixels. The pixel coasters are what kind of sparked my sales and recognition, so I felt like I had to get back to that. It’s really hard figuring out how to spend my time.
Anyway…I hope you like the stuff. I’m going to try and complete at least 3 projects a week to keep my store fresh. We’ll see how that works out ^_^
Zombies Ate My Cross Stitch
So the cross stitch thing is actually working out pretty good. I just sold my first project, “Zombies At My Cross Stitch.” It was one of the zombies from the amazing SNES game Zombies At My Neighbors lol! It was actually the first real cross stitch project I did. That made me happy.
I’ve been focusing more to the videogame demographic actually. I just think it’s hilarious to see these inside gamer jokes in a classic cross stitch. It makes me giggle on the inside. In lue of that, I just started a new project. I really wanted to do a typical cross stitch sampler. Like the goofy country ones that say something sweet about home and god and herbs and all that jazz. Instead of the hokey country apples with happy worms coming out though, I wanted that whole gamer thing. So I came up with this:

I just started on it…and it’s a bitch. Throughout my crafting excapades, I’ve figured something out about myself. Apparently, when I make something up original, I have to make it the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. It’s all subconsious to some degree, but it pisses me off when I get into it and realize how hard it is. ie: I’ve been working on this for last 2 days and have gotten this far:

If you can’t tell…those are Tetris pieces. Yeah, awesome, i know! But each little piece and color are just far enough apart that it can’t be easy. Here’s a crappy close-up:

I’ve got to go back and outline all the pieces too once the border is done. It will be awesome when it’s done tho. I’m thinking about selling the pattern. I’m definatly selling this when I’m done (I’m having a hard time figuring out how much to charge >_<). Selling the pattern might be pretty cool. There’s a couple more that I’ve done that would make great patterns. I’ll need help figuring all that out too. I’ll keep you posted on my progress!
